A message from the Shawville Pontiacs:

As we head into the 2025-2026 hockey season it’s with great pleasure and excitement to announce the return of the Shawville Pontiacs. A hockey history and tradition like no other, the Pontiac name makes a return after a 10-year hiatus, and joins the Northern Premier Hockey League (NPHL). The Pontiac’s will play all home games in Shawville, QC. 

The relaunch of our Pontiacs marks the return of our historic white, black and yellow colours. 

A hockey culture like no other, the Pontiacs were a main stay hockey organization in the Ottawa Valley and Metro area for decades. The Pontiacs were Algonquin Senior Leagues Champions in 1964-1965/1965-1966 and EOJBHL Champions in 1993-1994/2005-2006. The Pontiacs filled the arena with action from the likes of Earl Powell, Ivan Saunders, Barry Murray, Carson Ryan, Royce Richardson, Jordan MacDougall, Steve Beck, Paul Lang and many more. The high level on ice entertainment and recreational opportunity it brought to our communities gave a great sense of pride to our colours. An opportunity for growth, and the start of many youngsters' dreams.  

Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Darcy Findlay, says he’s extremely excited to get the new franchise up and running in Shawville. Findlay’s grandfather, Bob “Fish” Findlay, played for the Pontiac Senior Team in the 60’s and helped run the Pontiac JrB team in the 80&90’s. According to Findlay “It was always a part of my life growing up here in town - going to the rink on a Friday night to watch the Pontiacs play. Last year we got a small taste of the Senior league in town hosting four Comets games while their arena was under construction. And those games made it clear just how much this town misses that competitive level of hockey. When the opportunity came up to have a team here at home we jumped at the idea. We have a great team of people in place that are going to work hard at providing a great product”. 

The history of the Shawville Pontiacs Hockey Club runs deep. The return of our hockey club will mark a fresh beginning of many exciting years of competitive senior hockey in our area. “With the support of the community, we look forward to building a strong foundation and long lasting franchise once again says Findlay”.
